My program of research is primarily informed by the values and principles of critical community psychology. I firmly believe that research conducted within psychology should aspire to transcend the practice of yielding results for the sole purpose of enhancing the general understanding surrounding certain phenomena, and instead be in direct service of disenfranchised communities harmed by systems of oppression (e.g., neocolonialism, structural racism, and heteropatriarchy). Additionally, my research aims to inform health policy and promote health equity amongst marginalized and historically underrepresented groups, particularly members of the Latinx community. Furthermore, my research is dedicated to understanding how men鈥檚 gender is related to a variety of social and public health issues (e.g., intimate partner violence), with intentions of informing and developing policies and programs that address men鈥檚 gendered socialization as it is related to such negative health outcomes.
